Vocabulary:
transcription- DNA converting to mRNA
mRNA- messenger ribonucleic acid, carries DNA's code to ribosome
translation- the conversion of mRNA into protein
tRNA-carries amino acids to the ribosome, transfer RNA
central dogma- DNA to mRNA to protein, how DNA controls the cell
Notes:
took notes of a drawing of a principal stuck in an office but was too big to leave. they would send messages to the school by intercom yelling telephone or computer. DNA is too big to leave the nucleus, DNA send out messages using mRNA, or messenger RNA. Principals send messages to workers such as vice principals, teacher, students.. DNA sends messages to their workers- proteins.
how does DNA control the cell?
1.) cell gets a signal that a protein needs to be made.
2.) DNA is unwound and transcribed into an mRNA molecule.
3.) mRNA carries DNA's code out of the nucleus and into the ribosome
4.) where mRNA is translated into a protein by tRNA bringing amino acids into the ribosome.
5.) Protein then goes to work usually as an enzyme.
